An interaction program was organized on “Mental Health Situation, Opportunities and Challenges in the present context and future priorities” on 7th June 2019 chaired by Chief Guest Mr. Mahendra Prasad Shrestha, Chief of Health Coordination Division, Ministry of Health and Population and with participation from representatives from Ministry of Health and Population, Department of Health Services, Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), National Women Commission, National Human Rights Commission, World Health Organization and relevant Civil Society Organizations.
Presentations were made by Dr. Bikash Devkota Chief of Policy, Planning and Monitoring, Ministry of Health and Population on existing laws and policies relevant to mental health and Dr. Bibek Kumar Lal, Director, EDCD who shared about plans for the future in regard to mental health and Mr. Matrika Devkota, Executive Director of KOSHISH who shared the right holders perspective and his expectations from the government. Following the presentations, the floor was opened for discussion where the participants shared their expectations in regard to what the “Mental Health Promotion, Treatment and Rehabilitation Strategy” being developed by EDCD should incorporate as per the objective of the program. The feedback collected will thus be submitted to EDCD and it is expected to support the governmental body to make the strategy document more comprehensive and inclusive of opinions from relevant stakeholders.
